What does the Foundation do?
The Buckley Foundation for Communications is a nonprofit organization meeting the requirements of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Foundation provides scholarships to deserving individuals from the uniformed services, the clergy, educators, promising graduate students, and nonprofit organizations to attend courses in rhetoric and oratory offered at accredited institutions and private institutions, such as the Buckley School of Public Speaking in Camden, SC.
The Foundation also provides grants to promote the development of curricula in rhetoric and oratory, critical and strategic thinking, and the appreciation and advancement of Western Civilization.
Finally, the Foundation hosts debates, colloquia, and symposia to seek solutions to the most vexing challenges facing America and Western Civilization.
Who can apply for a scholarship?
- Scholarships are targeted at individuals in the following professions:
- Members of the uniformed services on active duty, or those separated no more than six months before application is made.
- Members of the clergy.
- Individuals working for nonprofit organizations.
- Educators
- Scholarship applicants must have attained a level of education permitting them to fully participate in the programs to which they intend to apply. In the case of The Buckley School, an undergraduate degree from an accredited college is required, although an exemption may be granted in exceptional cases.
- The applicant must commit to using the scholarship within one year of award. Failure to use the scholarship within that timeframe shall result in forfeiture of the scholarship.
Where does the money for scholarships come from?
We are a non-profit chatritable organization and, as such, rely on individual and institutional contributions to fund our programs - including our scholarships. Online donations made through this website fund both the Foundation operations as well as our scholarship and grant programs.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, all gifts made to the Buckley Foundation are tax deductible. We are a 501(c)3 organization.
